New Bikes Belong campaign aims to unite a million bike supporters for advocacy
Wednesday, April 7, 2010
At the 10th National Bike Summit on March 9, Bikes Belong unveiled a new campaign: peopleforbikes.org. The goal of peopleforbikes.org is to gather a million names of support, to speak with one powerful voice —to make bicycling safer, more convenient, and appealing for everyone.
Bicycling is great for health, good for communities, and a solution to many of our most pressing societal and environmental problems. Although millions of Americans recognize these benefits, and love to ride bikes, only a fraction of them have stood up to help improve bicycling in America. Peopleforbikes.org aims to help bridge this gap by reaching out to the general public to bring reinforcements to the bike advocacy world.
Peopleforbikes.org asks people to sign a simple pledge of support for bicycling. We are hoping to maximize signups by making the process simple, straightforward and free.
Peopleforbikes.org aims to increase the clout and influence of all bike advocacy organizations. We hope that our central message—that bicycling is important and should be promoted—will resonate more strongly with leaders, the media, and public.
The campaign is just kicking off, and we need the support of all current bike advocates to build early momentum. Visit www.peopleforbikes.org today and tell us that you’re for bikes – sign the pledge!
