Interview with Ned Overend by Steven Seaweed

SS: Are you still racing professionally?
NE: “Well no actually, i kinda retired as a professional mountain bike racer in ’96. Then I went to XTerra triathlons and I was doing that through like 2001. But I mountain bike and road bike race quite a bit every year.”
SS: You’re still connected with your old sponsor Specialized somehow, right?
NE: “Well, I’m an employee in product development and PR.
SS: Will you be at the Sea Otter Classic this weekend?
NE: “Ya absolutely, if you’re in the bike industry, you can’t miss the Sea Otter Classic. It’s one of the biggest ones that happens all year. It’s unique because it brings all of the bike racers together, because you have the cross country, downhill, road racing, bmx...so you have all the racers, all the industry people, they have a huge expo with all the products on display. You absolutely have to be there if you’re involved in the bike industry.”
SS: It’s also very spectator friendly
NE: “Absolutely, and it’s a great place for a spectator to meet the racers. They can get autographs, talk to people about products, so it’s a great place for the consumer to be.
SS: Where are you gonna be?
NE: “I’ll be in the Specialized booth, i’ll be racing the cross country race on Sunday and I’m gonna do the mountain bike tour ride on Saturday”
SS: I keep telling people to bring their bike along
NE: Absolutely, the bike helps. It’s kind of a big area, ya know? Between the downhill and dual slalom and the road bike races start and the cross country. So it’s good to have a bike to get around to kinda spectate the races but it’s also a great place to ride.
