Continuing the Sea Otter tradition of innovation, we are pleased to host the Thule Adventure Challenge in 2008. This new event consists of trail running, mountain biking, and a special challenges. Not a traditional duathlon or triathlon - this race is part of the new breed of multi-sport competitions. The "Warrior Cup" is on the line again in 2008 - the Warrior Cup is a specially designed trophy awarded to the top military team. In addition, the Corporate Cup competition returns in 2008.
THULE Adventure Challenge Race Category Description
This challenge race is open to individuals only - no team categories. Categories are broken into ten(10) year age groups for both men and women. The Adventure Challenge race disciplines will include mountain bike, trail run and a special tests.
Special tests are designed to add an element of fun while challenging you, both mentally and physically. These special tests require no additional gear on your part and no special training.
THULE Adventure Challenge Corporate Cup and THULE Adventure Challenge Warrior Cup Category Description
The Corporate and Warrior Cup competitions are open to teams of three (3) individuals (must include at least one female and one male racer).
The Warrior Cup is limited to retired and active duty military service personnel only - team members must be from the same branch of the military.
Each team member will compete in ALL three elements of the Challenge.
THULE Adventure Challenge Race Description
This race is designed to take a maximum of 2-3 hours to complete. ALL competitors and teams will start with the trail run leg, then mountain bike and finish with the special challenge.
General THULE Adventure Challenge Race Information
Mountain Bike: Approximately 5-7 miles on the Fort Ord Public Lands BLM trail system. A mix of singletrack, and fire road.
Trail Run/Foot Travel: Approximately 3 miles in and around the Fort Ord Public Lands BLM trail system.
Special Challenge: Elements will be announced here on or before March 1.These elements will require NO additional gear on your part and NO special training.
2008 THULE Adventure Challenge Entry Fees
Early Entry fee: $75 ($90. after March 20; $100. after April 4)
Warrior Cup and Corporate Cup (teams of three) Early Entry fee: $115.($125. after March 20; $135. after April 4)
Entry Fee includes: Athlete Hospitality Bag (valued at approximately $50.) plus a four day Festival Pass that includes FREE parking and expo entry (valued at $30.)
Registration and Packet Pick-up Hours:
Wednesday April 16 12 noon to 7 pm
Thursday April 17 6 am to 7 pm
Packet Pick-up ONLY Hours:
Friday April 18 6 am to 8a m
NO RACE DAY REGISTRATION - NO EXCEPTIONS.
Important Registration Information:
- USARA sanctioned. Racers must present a current USARA license at registration.
- No phone or faxed entries will be accepted.
- You must enter online before April 13, 2008 or on-site (after April 13, 2008), on a first-come, first-served basis.
- Competitor age is determined by the age of the participant on December 31, 2008.
General Event Rules:
- ALL USARA Rules apply.
- All participants will sign a USARA waiver/release form at registration. Those racers under 18 years old require a parent's or guardian's signature.
- ANSI or Snell approved helmets required for cycling events.
- Preliminary results will be posted onsite and available at www.seaotterclassic.com immediately after the event on Monday, April 21, 2008.
- Official Final Results will be posted and available on www.seaotterclassic.com after the event on or before Friday, April 25, 2008.
- Sorry, no pets allowed at the event or in the camping areas. (per Monterey County Parks Department regulation)
- Merchandise orders can be picked up at Athlete Hospitality.
- All information in this program is subject to change. Please verify your start times and other critical event issues when checking in at registration.
- SORRY, ABSOLUTELY NO REFUNDS.
Awards Information:
- Medals will be awarded three (3) deep in all Individual categories. All Categories may receive merchandise.
- Specially-designed Trophies will be awarded to the top three teams in both the Warrior Cup and Corporate Cup competitions.
- Awards presentations on the Main Awards Stage approximately one hour after the finish of the race.
- Athletes must be in attendance at the awards ceremony to receive their prizes.
- Awards will not be mailed.

To preserve these trails at Fort Ord for future riders, please stay on marked trails only and avoid cutting across switchbacks, and braking and riding over open terrain. Trails can be damaged by riders using them when they are wet and muddy. When training for competitive events at Fort Ord, always remember to share the trail and yield to other users.
